Jerry Caulder, Ph.d.

In memoriam – former Executive Chairman

Often referred to as the “father of agricultural biotechnology”, Dr. Caulder had an unparalleled record of success in life sciences and agriculture.

Jerry’s career began at Monsanto. During his fifteen year tenure with the company, Jerry held numerous management positions that included: overseeing Monsanto’s early venture investments, launching several agricultural products globally, and making several strategic acquisitions for the company. In 1984, seeing the transformative science of what would become some of today’s leading trait technologies, Jerry left Monsanto and became the Chairman and CEO of Mycogen, Inc., a start-up plant sciences company developing novel chemicals and plant traits. After successfully taking the company public, Dow Agro Sciences ultimately acquired Mycogen Seeds in 1998 with a market capitalization exceeding $1.2 billion at the time.

Jerry held leadership positions in a number of successful life science companies including: Myelos Pharmaceuticals, a therapeutic drug discovery company, Advanced Stent Technologies, Inc., a cardiac device company and Athenix, Inc., a plant sciences company. Over his career, Jerry’s leadership generated over two billion dollars worth of liquidity events across several successful companies.
